Last Saturday, 15 December, we brought our 2018 activities to a close at our ‘’ Senior Citizens’ Centre (CCI) in, with a ‘’ ‘Sarau da Maturidade’ event . It was an occasion for participants to show their families and friends everything they had achieved over the past two months, since the CCI opened on 16 October.
2018 Senior Citizens’ Gala
Organised by Ms Yara Toscano, who runs the drama classes, the Senior Citizens’ Gala featured 20 elderly participants who took part in individual and group performances. They sang, danced, recited poems and spoke about their lives to an audience of nearly 50 people.
Teachers Cida Paiva (Circular Dance), Luciana Aguiar (Yoga), Denise Agassi (Memory and Handicrafts) and Penny Ahlgrimm (Music and Movement) were also present to showcase their work and attend the Maturity Soiree.
The event took place at the same venue where we hold the Community Centre’s regular activities: the Butantã branch of Cultura Inglesa , our partner in this pilot project run by Fundação Britânica
.
We will soon have photos and videos of the performances.
The FBB Community Centre
During these two months of the pilot project, we welcomed 39 different elderly people to our activities. The key figures for the project were as follows:

Key Attendance figures for older people at our Community Centre ‘
’ During our final week of operation, we also asked our regular visitors to rate our service and activities, and the results were excellent!
On a scale of 1 to 5, the CCI received an overall rating of 4.92. Our team, responsible for coordinating and running the Centre, received the same score.
The workshops received an average score of 4.7 and the teachers’ average score was 4.8. This indicates that we got it right both in terms of the programme of activities and the selection of the people responsible for them.
When we asked about interest in taking part in the Community Centre in 2019, we received 100 per cent positive responses.
Some participants left comments on how it went These two months at our Community Centre:

Will it continue in 2019?
Yes! The feedback from everyone involved – the older people, the British Foundation and Cultura Inglesa – regarding the Community Centre The community spirit in 2018 has been extremely positive. We are all extremely pleased with the experience and want to continue – and perhaps even expand – the project in 2019.
We are currently reviewing all the activities and the various suggestions we have received to draw up a new programme for next year. So we’ll be back in full swing at the end of January!
And, if all goes well, we may round off 2019 with a new ‘’ (Sarau da Maturidade) featuring even more performances and more artists!
