About us

British Community: 80 years of partnership and care

The British Charitable Foundation was established in 1947 out of a desire amongst members of the British Community to care for elderly people who often lacked a support network of family members in Brazil or who were facing financial difficulties at this stage of their lives.

From its inception to the present day, the FBB has always relied on the vital support of institutions within the British Community to sustain its projects, expand its reach and fulfil its mission of caring for the elderly. St Paul’s School, the Cultura Inglesa network of language schools, the Anglican Cathedral of São Paulo, the Carajás Scout Group, the St Andrew Society of São Paulo, the São Paulo Yacht Club (SPYC) and Clube Atlético São Paulo (SPAC) are our key partners on this journey.

The power of collective endeavour

The power of collective endeavour

St Paul’s School is one of the FBB’s main sponsors, and many of the institution’s former pupils sit on our Board of Trustees and Executive Committee, actively contributing to the governance and future of the Foundation.

The Community Centre for the Elderly (CCI), a project founded in 2018, exists thanks to a partnership with Cultura Inglesa , which provides classrooms at its Pinheiros and Paraisópolis branches for the project’s cultural workshops and physical activities.

Young people from the Carajás Scout Group take part in the Foundation’s main events as volunteers, helping with organisation and production. The St Andrew Society of São Paulo, a group that promotes Scottish culture and traditions, contributes with bagpipe performances and traditional dances at events such as the King’s Birthday Party and other festivities, touching the hearts of the audience.

SPYC: British heritage on the banks of the Guarapiranga

São Paulo Yacht Club , a traditional English sailing club situated on the banks of the Guarapiranga reservoir, has on several occasions welcomed CCI participants for a full day at the club. This outing, known as SPYC Day, features outdoor dance and yoga classes, lunch, games and boat trips – an unforgettable experience for our elderly members.

The Royal British Legion SP is now part of the FBB

The Royal British Legion São Paulo, an organisation dedicated to supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families, has always been a key partner of the FBB and, in 2026, was incorporated into our organisation. We continue to provide comprehensive support to those we assist and to organise the annual events formerly run by the RBL, whilst maintaining the same objectives of strengthening the bonds and traditions of the British community.

The strength of the FBB lies not only in the dedicated work of its staff, but also in the generosity, unity and commitment of each of these partner organisations. Nearly 80 years of collaboration, friendship and shared care have enabled us to transform lives and offer a warm welcome to those who have already done so much for us. We are deeply grateful to our partners. And we continue together, strengthening bonds, promoting the values of the British Community and building a more welcoming future for the elderly.
