As I mentioned in our 2018 Retrospective , the feedback we received from the elderly users of our Community Centre was extremely positive. This new project for older people, which we launched in October 2018, received an overall rating of 4.92 on a scale of 1 to 5, the same score received by the team from the British Foundation , which was responsible for managing the activities.

During the two months the Centre was open, we welcomed 39 elderly people who attended very regularly and expressed high levels of satisfaction with our activities. For this reason, we are delighted to confirm that this project for older people will continue in 2019!

I won’t dwell on the positive results we’ve achieved, but I have made the report containing this online assessment. Simply visit this link to view it: Assessment of the FBB Community Centre

The new project for the elderly

This Community Centre was opened in October 2018, with the aim of providing a space offering a range of free activities that contribute to healthy ageing, the development of independence and social skills, the strengthening of family ties and community life, and the prevention of situations of social risk for people aged over 60.

After the first two months of operation, we managed to organise a Sarau da Maturidade in December so that 20 elderly people could put on a number of performances for friends and family. With this closing event, we were certain that the objectives described above are being fully achieved in this project for the elderly.

For this reason, both the British Foundation and Cultura Inglesa , our partner who provided the venue for these activities and has supported us from the very beginning, have decided to continue running the Community Centre in 2019.

Next steps

For the time being, we will continue the project in its current format, offering activities on three mornings a week. However, there is a strong desire to expand the scope of this project for older people in 2019.

We are looking into extending the CCI’s opening hours by one or two days, with new activities designed to develop other physical and mental skills. We also want to launch the project at a second location, and we will be seeking partners to help us get this idea off the ground.

If you like this project and would like to help us with this, send a message or make a monthly donation ! If you’re unable to do so, please support us and spread the word about our work – that helps us a great deal too!
